Campfire Distorted
What if camping was considered alongside other high-end pursuits that require significant investment and resources like golf or polo?

Campfire Distorted aims to ask that question, and critique the inherent elitism of camping.

The high cost of specialized gear and the limited accessibility of national parks outside of the first world underscore this exclusivity.

This work imagines a morbid world where camping for the wealthy contrasts with camping for the rest of us, and the extravagant gear and conveniences they might bring.

My starting point took me to the origins of camping in the Victorian era, when it was a pastime reserved for the elite.

I wanted a design that was intriguing, slightly hostile to the environment, and also exclusionary.

I took inspiration from overt luxury, temples, and also golf gear, especially royal tartan patterns.
